John C. “Mutt” Simpson Sr., age 91 passed away peacefully at Clarview Nursing & Rehab on November 29, 2024, following a brief illness. He was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Born on October 3, 1933, to Mary Gorman and Bruce Simpson of Kissinger Mills. John was a long-time resident of Huey, PA. John went into the military and served in the Army during the Korean War. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved being outdoors, and his greatest joy was to hunt and fish with his family. There were many “the big buck got away” stories down through the years. He also loved to garden and enjoyed setting up feeders for the birds. He would sit on his porch for hours, watching the birds and wildlife. He would get together with his hunting friends and have cookouts in the summer. He was always smoking his pipe. John worked for many years as a laborer and retired from Dana Logue Memorials in Sligo. He took great pride in setting and caring for the memorial stones for those who lost loved ones. He had many young men work under him, trimming the Christmas trees on Logue Farms and getting them ready to ship out all over the state. He had several musically talented siblings, and he loved to hear them sing together. He came from a family of 15 siblings, and they were avid baseball players. John found great pleasure in talking and watching baseball and football. He is survived by his sons, Larry “Squirrel” (Tina) Simpson, of Emlenton, and David Bruce Simpson of King George, VA., and daughter: Pamela Simpson of Emlenton. He is survived by 2 grandsons, Jason Simpson, and John Simpson. 4 granddaughters: Rachel Misenhelter, Emily Bauter, Megan Strohman, and Laura Simpson. He also has 7 great-grandsons and 2 great-granddaughters. Of his 15 siblings, one survives: Linda Ganoe, of Clarion. He was preceded in death by his son, John Simpson Jr., grandson, Joshua Simpson, 14 siblings, and his parents. The family wants to thank Clearview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Clarion VNA for their loving care of Dad in his last days. He was surrounded by those who loved him and cared greatly for him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Clarion County VNA or Clearview Nursing and Rehab Activities department in John’s Honor.
