Elizabeth J. "Betty" Hartnett

ELIZABETH J. "Betty" HARTNETT, 76, of Chicora, Pa. passed away at 2:40 AM Friday morning (02-07-14) at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights following a period of declining health. Born in Washington Township, Butler County, Pa. on February 15, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore "Sam" and Lisa Barone Muscatello. Betty was married on July 14, 1962 to Robert J. Hartnett who passed away November 3, 2007. She was a graduate of the former Concord Township High School in 1954. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from Slippery State Teachers College (now University) and a Master of Science in Secondary Education from West Virginia University at Morgantown. She began a thirty-three year career with Northern Butler County School District, now Moniteau School District, retiring in 1993. While teaching, she was a member of the MEA, PSEA, and NEA educational associations. In retirement, she maintained membership with the organizations in retiree status. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Highland Golf Course, and was a member of the Ladies' League at Lake Arthur CC and the Tuesday AM League at Highland. Involved in bowling, she was a member of the Tuesday AM League (wintertime) at Bruin Lanes and the Spices League at Sherwood Lanes. Betty was a member of Mater Dolorossa Catholic Church at Chicora, and enjoyed assisting the ladies of the church in various church functions. Surviving are two sons and wives: Gerald and Bailey Hartnett of East Northport, NY and Kevin and Gwen Hartnett of Allentown, Pa.; four grandchildren: Matthew Robert, Jamison (Jamie), Tommy, and Daniel Hartnett; sister: Mary Muscatello Beatty of Panama City, FL; brother and wife: Carl G. and Beverly Muscatello of Ormand Beach, FL; also many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bruno A. Muscatello. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 So. Wayne Ave., Parker, Pa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday at Mater Dolorosa Parish in Chicora with Father Joseph Pudichery, church pastor, officiating. Entombment will follow at 1:30 PM at Butler County Memorial Park.
