WILLIAM G. BERLIN, 94, of Jefferson Suites, Brookville, Pa., formerly of Big Bend- Emlenton, Pa. passed away at 8:10 AM Wednesday morning (10-17-12) at Jefferson Manor following a period of declining health. Born in West Virginia on July 23, 1918, he was the son of the late William G. and Gail Harper Berlin. Bill was a graduate of the former Salem High School in Clarion County. He was employed over thirty years at Koppers Chemical Co. of Oil City, from where retired. Mr. Berlin served in World War II with the U.S. Navy, primarily based at San Diego, Calif. He served honorably for many years with the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School Board as both member and several term president. He was a member of Parker City-Allegheny Valley Lodge F.&A.M. #521 of Parker and a member of the New Castle Consistory. A very important aspect of Bill's life was being able to serve his Lord as a member of the Big Bend United Methodist Church. Not just a member, Bill and his late wife Nettie, served many capacities of the church operation from the official board to maintaining the building itself. Surviving are a daughter: Brenda Rose, a medical missionary, living in Nicaragua; a son and his wife, Kenneth D. and Pat Berlin of Brookville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Nettie Belle Murray, whom he married on Nov. 24, 1940 and who passed away August 26, 2005; also preceded by sister Thelma Steingass, and brothers Richard, Robert, and Kenneth Berlin. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 So. Washington St., Eau Claire with further visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday at the Big Bend United Methodist Church, near Emlenton. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM in the church with interment to follow at Big Bend Cemetery.
