DAVID E. "Ed" HORNER, 87, of Dutch Hill, Parker, Pa. passed away at 12:30 PM Saturday (04-02-11) at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Dutch Hill, Clarion Co., on June 10, 1923, he was the son of the late Roy A. and Blanche Keefer Horner. Ed was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. Honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant, he served three years in the European Theater of Operations in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He served with the 3937 Gas Suppply Company. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, both of Parker. Mr. Horner worked with his father, and later owned and operated Roy A. Horner and Son Monument Co. in Dutch Hill for fifty two years. Ed also served as sexton of the Mt. Calvary - Dutch Hill Cemetery most of his adult life. He was also retired from the former Glass Containers Corp. of Parker with thirty four years of service. He was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church of Perry Township, Parker. Surviving are a daughter: Marcie (Scott) Douglass of Emlenton; a son Jesse (Jeannie) Horner of Butler; four grandchildren: Tawnia (Wayne) Miller of Dutch Hill, Jason (Jennifer) Snyder of Butler, Ben and Sarah Horner, both of Butler; one brother: Joseph E. "Joe" Horner of Parker; number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Wanda Lee Daubenspeck, whom he married Sept. 9, 1953 and who passed May 24, 2000. He was preceded also by a daughter, Leanne Horner Snyder on Dec. 23, 1994, and one sister: Lucille "Celie" Horner Trill. Ed also was preceded by a sister Audrey at birth and a brother Russell who passed in his youth. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM today (Monday) at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 So. Wayne Ave. Parker. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Dutch Hill.
