John Randall Griffin, Sr.November 29, 1939 ~ June 10, 2017 (age 77)
JOHN RANDALL GRIFFIN,Sr., 77, Chief Warrant Officer Ret.of Chicora, Pa. passed away Saturday morning at VAMC-Aspinwall (Pgh.) following an illness.
Born in Eldorado, Illinois on November 29, 1939, he was son of late Burlie E. and Hazel Williams Griffin.
Following graduation from high school, he began a twenty year career with the United States Army beginning with basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Over the next twenty years, he distinguished himself as a selfless serviceman earning the following medals: Good Conduct Medal (2), NDSM, Viet Nam Service and Viet Nam Campaign Medals, Bronze Star with V-Device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritourious Unit Commendation Medal (2), Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and two overseas bars. From attaining the rank of SFC (E-7), he then became a Warrant Officer rising to the rank of CWO-3, the rank from which he retired on May 1, 1978 at Ft. Knox, KY.
He was protestant by faith, and was a member of the VFW and DAV. In addition to the military service, Mr. Griffin earned an Associates Degree from Thomas A. Edison College of New Jersey and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Slippery Rock University.
Surviving are three children and spouses: Cheryl (Herb) Griffin-Boylan of Parker, Audra (Robert) Ronzano of Chalfont, Pa., and Lt. Col. John R. (Dawn) Griffin, Jr. of Wiesbaden, Germany; eight grandchildren: Michael (Kate) Boylan, McKayla Boylan, Donald (Bubba) Boylan, Zachary Ronzano, Demitri Marillo, Tyler and Lauren Gonzales, and Karys Griffin; one great grandchild: Gaven Boylan; six siblings all of Eldorado, Illinois: Burlie Ray, Brian, David, Kenneth Griffin, Emma Lee Holt, and Daisy Mae Wienstoer.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 So. Wayne Ave., Parker. Funeral services at 11: 00 AM Friday at funeral home. Burial will be in Cemetery of Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pa.
Members of VFW and American Legion Posts of Parker will conduct services at 10:45 AM Friday at funeral home prior to funeral service.
